Xiaomi phones selling like hot cakes in India: 3 new production facilities being constructed

June 13, 2025

India is one ofXiaomi‘s most important markets and the Chinese brand has already set up a few manufacturing facilities in the country. This was just the first step, as the company will be launching three more smartphone manufacturing plants in the region, making for a total of six mobile plants.

“In 2015 we extended our long-term commitment to the Indian market by joining the ‘Make in India’ programme,” Xiaomi India head Manu Jain (seen above, on right) was quoted as saying in an emailed press release. “Today we are deepening this commitment with three more smartphone factories and our first SMT plant dedicated towards local manufacturing of PCBA [printed circuit board assembly] units.”

The announcement was made at its first Supplier Investment Summit, which saw the Chinese colossus bring 50 smartphone component suppliers to India.

The PCBA news is also particularly important, as this means fewer components need to be imported. “We expect that ~100% of the @XiaomiIndiaphones made in India, will have locally manufactured PCBAs by Q3 2018,” Jain said in atweet.

The Chinese brandclaimsthat over 95% of all its smartphones sold in the country are locally assembled. Will these new facilities be enough to prevent shortages during flash sales? Who knows, but the company surelydoesn’t want a repeatof February’s Redmi Note 5 Pro flash sale.
