Xiaomi is using UWB tech to make smart home controls seamless
June 01, 2025
We’ve already seen Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology launching on theiPhone 11 seriesand Samsung’sGalaxy Note 20 Ultra. This opens the door to faster file sharing, smart door locking/unlocking, and mobile payments.
Now, Xiaomi has posted its own take on UWB onWeibo, showing a more intuitive way to control yoursmart devicesaround the household. Check out the video demonstration below.

Xiaomi’s video shows an executive controlling devices such as a smart light, smart display, fan, and smart TV, by simply pointing a phone at the devices. In other words, it doesn’t seem like you need to use anIR blasteror Bluetooth.
The clip also shows the phone’s UI automatically switching between various device control menus as the executive points at different smart home gadgets — no need to manually swipe to a specific device menu. Finally, the Chinese brand’s video clip showcases door locking/unlocking too, with a smart lock automatically unlocking the door as it detects the phone nearby.
Xiaomi isn’t the only company to tout UWB technology in recent weeks, as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 2 pack the tech. Samsung has alsoissued a blog posttoday, outlining the current and upcoming benefits of UWB in its phones.
The South Korean manufacturer says UWB tech allows for more accurate Nearby Share capabilities, and an augmented reality feature to find your other Galaxy devices. Samsung adds that the technology will soon enable the ability to unlock your door as you approach it.
