Well, darn: Motorola’s Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini aren’t getting updated to Lollipop
June 30, 2025
Motorola’s David Schuster has justtaken to Google+ to announcethat the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini will not be receiving an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. No explanation was provided for the skipped update, though the company is offering affected Droid users some coupons on new smartphones for their troubles. If you happen to own any of these devices and would like a new-and-improved Moto phone, you have the option to claim a couple discounts onMotorola’s site.
Do you have an Ultra, Maxx or Mini with an active phone number? If so, you can register to get theDroid Turbo 2for $524 (normally $624), or theDroid Maxx 2for $334 (normally $384). This offer expires Thursday, May 19th, and promo codes must be redeemed by Thursday, June 2nd.

While I’d like to say this news is surprising, it really isn’t at this point. Ever sincethe whole 2015 Moto E debaclea few months ago, it’s been clear to users that Motorola just isn’t as focused on updating their devices as they once were. Whether that’s due to Lenovo purchasing the company is yet to be determined, but it’s certainly possible.
If you find yourself still using the Ultra, Maxx or Mini and aren’t too concerned with software updates, you might want to give the Turbo 2 or Maxx 2 a shot. Those are good phones. But you might also want to think about theMoto X Pure Edition, which also works on Verizon’s network and gets software updates in a timely manner.
What are your thoughts? Are you still using a 2014 Droid? If so, let us know if you’ll be taking Motorola up on its offer.
