The successor to Vine is called Byte, launching in 2019

Aftersomeback-and-forthover whether aVine successorwould materialize, Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann finally announced a proper successor on Twitter. CalledByte, the app is available as a private beta starting today foriPhoneusers and later this year forAndroidusers.
According toThe Verge, Byte is similar to Vine and Instagram in that the new app features a feed that lets you see other people’s creations. There is also an activity feed and an option to edit your profile.
Things get interesting once you dive into the creation tool, which exists at the center of the bottom row of icons. Tap it once and a gradient of random colors shows up, while a tap on the canvas reveals several buttons. You can use your device’s camera to take pictures and put them in your creation, though you can also add text and draw on your creation with your finger.
There is even a “soundtrack” button that is inspired byMario Paint’s composer and lets you create looping synths that you may then use in your creations.
More interesting is the computer, an app launcher within Byte that lets you add text, images, and memes into your Bytes. For example, Trendy brings in news headlines while Weather brings in, well, weather information.
The end results are garish neon creations that might give you nightmares. That said, you may share your Bytes across services like Instagram or keep them all to yourself.
Hofmann toldThe Vergethat additional features are in the works, such as “blocks” that brings in programming capabilities and features a grid-based interface.
As previously mentioned, Byte entered a private beta today for iPhone. An Android version will arrive later this year, with Byte opening up to everyone in July 2019.
