The Nokia 8 Sirocco could resurrect the iconic Sirocco brand

July 29, 2025

HMD Globalis looking to bring back fond memories of yesteryear by resurrecting well known Nokia brands. The company has trademarkeda new Nokia phone with model number TA-1005 as the ‘Nokia 8 Sirocco’. Incidentally, TA-1005 was the speculated model number for the much anticipatedNokia 9, which is expected to be unveiled duringMWC 2018.

This is a throwback of sorts to theNokia 8800 Siroccofrom 2006, which was a premium version of the Nokia 8800 (sliding phones, anyone?). It featured a glossy steel body along with a 262K color TFT display that sported a sapphire glass covering. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is likely to feature an LG-made OLED display, dual-selfie cameras and added storage. The rest of the specs such as theSnapdragon 835SoC, RAM, primary cameras etc. are expected to carry over from the originalNokia 8.

This is not the first time HMD is trying to resurrect iconic Nokia brands, though. We saw theNokia 3310don a new avatar last year and while there are some modern additions, it tried to stay true to its classic roots. Also, true to Nokia’s legacy, HMD is looking to scale the feature set across a wide price range while still promising the durability and reliability that the Nokia name stood for. The revival of old brands should strike a chord with fans of the erstwhile cellular behemoth and hopefully, HMD will do more than enough justice to these iconic names. We cannot wait to find out.
