Sprint cancels its “Galaxy Forever” upgrade deal for the Galaxy S7 Edge

RememberSprint‘s cool “Galaxy Forever” lease promotion? The one where you buy a new Samsung phone and can thenupgrade it after a year of repaymentswith no upgrade fees? Well, if you do, remembering it is all you’re going to be doing. According toFierce Wireless, who confirmed the change with multiple Sprint stores, Sprint has now cancelled the program for theGalaxy S7 Edge.
It’s unclear if the program wasn’t popular, would cost the carrier too much money (the resale market for used Androids is much worse than for used iPhones) or if Sprint simply realized Android owners like to switch Android OEMs on the regular.
Sprint’s “iPhone Forever” program is reportedly still going strong, but iOS owners don’t exactly have choices with the iPhone. The Samsung version onlylaunched four months agoand is still available for the regularGalaxy S7.
The fate of those that already purchased a Galaxy S7 Edge through the program is also unclear. Considering how hard carriers have been pushing lease programs in recent times, it’s odd to see such a rapid backtrack. Especially when the Galaxy S7 Edge has proven so popular. Sprint hasn’t said anything official yet, but we expect an explanation will be forthcoming soon enough.
