Sony just answered most of your PS5 questions

August 06, 2025

Sony is answering a large number of yourPlayStation 5questions just days before the game console arrives. AsThe Vergereports, the company hasposted an FAQthat not only explains many PS5 details, but has revealed a few new tidbits about the system’s game compatibility.

Most notably, the FAQ reveals that PlayStation Now will be available on the PS5 for both downloading and streaming supported games. Sony didn’t detail any differences in game support versus the PS4, but this suggests you’ll have access to original PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 games that were previously off-limits.

You won’t have to be picky about where you play new games, either. All PS5 games will be region-free, Sony said. In other words, you’re able to import a title from any territory knowing it will work on your console.

Many other aspects of the PlayStation 5 FAQ provide helpful answers, if sometimes expected ones. To start, Sony doesn’t rule out other colors besides black-and-white — you just won’t have a choice “at launch.” Likewise, 3D Audio support won’t be limited to headphones once an update expands it to conventional speakers. You’ll get some 8K output with “supported software” in the future, too.

The FAQ also serves as a reminder that M.2-based expansion SSDs won’t be available until an update, and that you may’t use an external USB drive to run PS5 titles. Don’t expect a web browser, for that matter. You will get to Remote Play games on your PS5 to your PS4, although Sony’s controller requirements may rule out PS5-native games.

This won’t necessarily satisfy all your questions. Users commenting on the FAQ have asked when the PlayStation 5 will be available in countries like India, or whether it will support 1440p monitors. However, the answers already present could be enough to help you make the choice between a PS5 or a rival like theXbox Series X.
