Sony accidentally reveals Xperia E5 renders

There’s a Moto G4 Play competitor coming fromSonyvery soon. Images of the device, called Xperia E5, showed up on Sony’s social accounts including Facebook and Twitter but they were quickly taken down.
Xperia BlogandGSM Arenacaptured the press shots, which appear to have been published accidentally. The images show a rather attractive plastic-made device that resembles theXperia X, but lacks a fingerprint scanner or a dedicated shutter button and features a different button arrangement. June 5, the date shown in the press shots, could be a clue of the E5’s official release date.
Earlier this week, the Xperia E5 namewas linkedto a code number that has been spotted in the GFXBench benchmark results. If the Sony F3311 is indeed the Xperia E5, the device will supposedly feature a 4.6-inch display of 720p resolution, alongside a MediaTek MT6735 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and 16MP/5MP cameras.
The presumptive spec sheet puts the Xperia E5 in the same lane with Lenovo’s newMoto G4 Play, the cheapest sibling in theG4 family. We doubt that Sony will want – or be able – to engage Lenovo in a price battle in this category, so let’s hope that the company has a good marketing strategy lined up.
The release of the Xperia E5 seems to go against arecent reportabout Sony adopting the X branding for its entire smartphone line-up through 2018. Sony, whichforecasted today a return to mobile profitability, has only released X devices this year: Xperia XA, Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and thehumongous Xperia XA Ultra.
