Samsung’s next Exynos chip will be launched on January 4th

Samsung will fully unveil its next-generation Exynos chipset on January 4th, 2018, judging by apostfrom the official Samsung Exynos Twitter account. The tweet includes the hashtag “#TheNextExynos” (good luck saying that correctly ten times fast!), which suggests the South Korean giant is talking about its latest 9-series chip, the Exynos 9810.

Should the date mark the grand debut of Samsung’s latest 10nm processor, which is expected to power theGalaxy S9 and S9 Plusin selected regions, it notably comes just a few days prior toCES 2018.

The date’s proximity to the massive Las Vegas showcase is fitting considering the first official confirmation of theExynos 9810’s existence emergedafter Samsung acknowledged a related CES 2018 Innovation Award back in November. WHOOPs.

There’s very little new information we can glean from the tweet aside from Samsung’s promise that the 10nm processor will go “beyond a component”.

The Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Thankfully, we already know a few vague details that suggest the new chipset will offer a number of significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Exynos 8895, which powered theGalaxy S8, S8 Plus, andNote 8.

For example, we know that the Exynos 9810 will pack an upgraded GPU and a Category 18 LTE modem which promises peak download speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. There’s also some speculation that the 9810 will feature a dedicated neural networking or AI processor to rival applications fromQualcommandHuawei, but this has yet to be confirmed.

As for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, thenewly FCC-certifiedflagships are almost certain to carry Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC in the US and China, while the model released in Europe and other markets will be powered by the Exynos 9810.
