Samsung rolls out Android 11 to Galaxy S20 owners on Verizon

August 20, 2025

There was word Samsung mightrelease Android 11and One UI 3.0 in December, and it’s being true to its word. Verizon (disclaimer: this author also writes for Verizon-ownedEngadget) has startedrolling outthe Android 11 update to its variants of theGalaxy S20,S20 Plus, andS20 Ultra.

As expected, the update largely revolves around Samsung’sOne UI 3.0additions, including more control over the home and lock screens, an improved Internet browser and refinements to everything from the calendar to contacts. It also catches up on features, such as bringing Wireless DeX to everyone.

Other improvements are linked to Android 11 itself, such as dedicated sections for conversations and media in the Quick Panel as well as better privacy protections.

This appears to be the first US deployment for Samsung’s Android 11 update, and comes even before unlocked Galaxy S20 models. However, that also leaves many people stuck using Android 10 in the near future. Even theGalaxy S20 FEhas been left out of the upgrade cycle for now.

As it stands, you’ll likely have to be patient even if you are a Verizon-bound owner. The update isn’t likely to hit every device quickly, and our Galaxy S20 Plus unit has yet to get the new software as we write this. Still, this is good news if you were hoping to use Google’s latest OS on your Galaxy before the year was over.
