Samsung puts another nail in mobile VR’s coffin with the Galaxy Note 10
June 09, 2025
Samsungwas one of the earliest adopters ofvirtual realitytechnology, launching itsGear VRheadset back in 2015. The headset allows you to slot a Samsung flagship into it, with the phone providing the screen and horsepower.
Unfortunately, Samsung confirmed toThe Vergethat the brand-newGalaxy Note 10series doesn’t support the Gear VR. It’s unclear whether the manufacturer will eventually provide an adapter to ensure that the two devices are compatible with each other.

Samsung’sGalaxy S10series was indeed compatible with the VR headset, with the peripheral including the required adapter in the box. But we haven’t seen a new headset since 2017’s model.
The outlet also confirmed that Samsung is no longer selling the Gear VR on its website, although they can still be acquired onAmazon. This certainly suggests that the company is abandoning the accessory — or making way for a new model.

The news comes as standalone VR headsets such as the $400Oculus Questand $200Oculus Gocontinue to gain prominence. But it’s still a little disappointing, as it suggests that one of Samsung’s exclusive features is no longer an option going forward. Sure, mobile VR isn’t exactly a phone-seller these days, but the Gear VR had several neat exclusives compared to Google’sDaydreamplatform.
At least Samsung’s older flagships are still compatible with the Gear VR, so you can simply acquire (or hold onto) one of these devices if you must have the tech. What do you make of the news? Sound off in the comments below!
