Report: Motorola thinks you’ll buy a “mid-range” Razr foldable phone for $1,500

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any concrete details on the Motorola Razr brand’slong-awaited return as a folding smartphone. A new report suggests we won’t have to wait much longer, however, as the reimagined flip phone could hit the U.S. in just a “few months.”
The new details come fromLetsGoDigital, which claims to have verified information obtained from an anonymous source (presumably from someone inside Motorola HQ). Aside from a few design tidbits, the biggest talking point coming from the report is the phone’seye-watering price of $1,500.
It’s important to note the source reaffirms previous rumors thatthe reborn Razr will not be a flagship devicein terms of specs. Not only will it “not be equipped with a high-end processor,” it will also have a “smaller battery” relative to other foldables.
Instead, the Lenovo-owned OEM is apparently relying on the modernized clamshell design to draw in buyers. While exact dimensions are still up in the air, the report notes that recent renders showing a larger display on the inside and a small second screen on the outside for notifications when closed are accurate.
Mid-range specs, premium price
While a heavy dose of nostalgia mixed with modern tech could be a winning formula, it’s hard to see a wider audience flocking to a potentially gimmicky phone that’s $400 over the asking price of the recently releasedNote 10 Plus.
Meanwhile, if you really want to take the expensive early adopter route into the foldables market, it seems more likely those with money to burn would prefer a feature-packed, flagship device like theSamsung Galaxy FoldorHUAWEI Mate X, instead.
We’ll hopefully hear more in the coming months. The report suggests that a European launch could take place between December 2019 and January 2020, following its U.S. premiere. If that’s the case, we’re likely to see the phone sometime this fall.
