Nokia 8 camera left you wanting? Expect improvements, ARCore with Android Pie
June 19, 2025
TheNokia 8was a great debut flagship for HMD Global, offering a powerful chipset, slick design, and lightweight take on Android. It didn’t have the greatest camera quality though, but the manufacturer is hard at work on an update.
The news emerged after a Nokia 8 owner tweeted at HMD Global executive Juho Sarvikas, complaining about camera and face unlock updates for the device. Sarvikas responded to the user, noting that a camera-related update with “new experiences” is coming as part of theAndroid Pieupdate.

Sarvikas also added thatARCorewas coming to the Nokia 8 as part of the update. Unfortunately, the company was still “evaluating solutions” forface unlock, so don’t expect it in the Pie update.
In any case, it’s encouraging to see camera-related improvements coming to the Nokia 8, as it was arguably the device’s weakest department. And it wouldn’t be the first 2017 flagship to receive a much-needed camera-focused update, as Essential delivered a series of related updates following the release of theEssential Phone.

News of the Nokia 8 update also comes as rumors swirl around the company’s next flagship. The latest leak shows aNokia phone with five rear cameras— is this the firm’s next high-end device?
