July 23, 2025

It was only a matter of time beforeMinecraftjoined in on the fun of augmented reality as other mobile games have already, such asPokémon Go. Now, according toa new teaser trailerfrom Microsoft, it appears a Minecraft AR game is imminent.

The video teaser, which you can see below, strongly hints that a Minecraft AR app or game will launch on May 17 atthe game’s official site.

A teaser image for a Minecraft AR game, likely getting announced on May 17, 2019.

In the (very poorly green-screened) video, a man accidentally takes someone else’s smartphone with him when he leaves a park bench. The woman whose phone he took grabs his (likely a taped-overSamsung Galaxy S6orS7) and notices that there are Minecraft characters both on the phone and suddenly in the real world. She peers at the device and sees the supposed launch date.

While the clearly low-budget teaser trailer fits in nicely with Minecraft’s low-graphics-quality aesthetic, it doesn’t really explain much. Is it a game? A fun app? Will it be available on Android and iOS? We don’t know the answers to any of these questions.

According toWindows Central, the announcement is supposedly for a game which has the internal codename “Genoa.” The game will launch at some point this year, according toWC’ssource.
