How to change the Bluetooth audio codec on the OnePlus 5

While we are more than happy that OnePlus opted to keep the 3.5mm headphone jack in its newest handset, there are quite a few of us out there that use Bluetooth audio on the daily. And while you’re not going to get as good an experience as being hard-wired directly into the device, OnePlus has offered a way to choose from three different audio codecs to suit your particular needs.

So how do you access these codecs, and which ones does the OnePlus 5 offer? Let’s get into it.
First, you’ll want to head to the settings app. From here, you should scroll down to the very bottom where you can select the “Advanced” tab. In this menu, you can select “Bluetooth Audio Codec” at the very bottom of the page.
There are three options available here. aptX is selected by default, but you’re able to also use aptX HD and SBC for supported headphones. While you likely won’t need to change these, it’s always nice to have the option. For more on advanced audio codecs, verify to check out all thenew options supported in Android O.
What audio codec are you using? I personally don’t own any aptX HD headphones, but I probably will once more are available on the market.
