Here’s our first look at Google’s Home successor
July 15, 2025
For a couple of months now, there have been hints that Google has been preparing to replace its four-year-old Home smart speaker with a new model. We now have a good idea of what that device will look like.
Last night, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) uploaded alistingrelated to an unannounced Google device. Unfortunately, the filling didn’t include much in the way of useful information. Subsequently, however, Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communicationspublished a filingfor the same device. We know they’re the same product because they share identical identifiers: GXCA6.Android TV Guidefirst spotted the listing, which includes photos of the smart speaker. We don’t know how Google plans to brand this new device, but for this article, we’ll call it the “Nest Speaker.”

Based on the limited information we have, it’s hard to say if the Google Nest Speaker has all the things we’d like tosee from a new Google Home. At the very least, if you already own aNest MiniorNest Hub, this new speaker will fit right alongside them. It features the same colored fabric and anti-slip silicone base as Google’s other Nest smart speakers. For better and worse, it looks like it will use the same proprietary 30W power adapter. According to a report9to5Googlepublished in June, the new model will sound better than its predecessor.
AsAndroid Policepoints out, the Google Nest Speaker is taller than both the Google Home and Home Max. As you can see from the ruler in the photo, it’s about 220mm (~8.7 inches) tall. By contrast, the Home and Home Max measure in at 143mm and 200mm tall. We don’t know when Google will announce this new smart speaker. However, if it’s passing through regulators, then a release date can’t be too far away.
