Google Assistant isn’t working with Bluetooth headphones on some Pixel 2s

July 11, 2025

Well, it’s that time again folks: anotherPixel 2problem as appeared. This one bears a relation to Bluetooth, one of theGoogle Pixel’s old nemeses, but it’s an issue that’s unlikely to disrupttoomany users.

Pixel 2 owners have taken to the Google Product Forums to report that, when trying to activate the Google Assistant using Bluetooth headphones, the Assitant doesn’t detect the user’s voice. Apparently, the tone can be heard as if Assistant is listening, but it behaves like nobody is speaking.

According to the reports, this issue isn’t resolved by the Android 8.1 update, and it occurs with a number of different headphone brands (and on both the Pixel 2 and 2 XL).

Bluetooth issues plagued the last Pixel devices — and its a system that causes trouble on many other electronics products too — but it doesn’t seem like something that’s going to be too hard to address. Both the Google Assistant and Bluetooth headphones function properly independently of each other, so it’s unlikely that it can’t be fixed with an over-the-air update.

Google is aware of the problem but it hasn’t yet discussed a timescale for a fix. If you’ve experienced this on your handset, head over to theGoogle Product Forums hereif you want to provide some details.
