Galaxy S10 sales numbers may cheer up Samsung after early Fold faults

Samsung’sGalaxy S10series looks like a substantial upgrade over theGalaxy S9range, offering multiple cameras, a beefy chipset, and reverse wireless charging. We’ve also got an all-new model in the Galaxy S10e, and it looks like the combination of hefty upgrades and a new device are making a difference to early sales.
According toCounterpoint Research, first week Galaxy S10 sales in the U.S. are 16 percent higher than first week sales for theGalaxy S9family. It adds that the new flagship is out-pacing first weekGalaxy S8sales too, although it didn’t disclose figures in this regard. The tracking firm notes that the Galaxy S10 Plus is responsible for 50 percent of sales, while theGalaxy S10eis bringing up the rear.
“The S10e is selling the least out of the three. However, it is the additional S10e volumes that helped Samsung get the gains compared to the S9 series sales. Our data reveals that the combined sales of the S10 Plus and the S10 are similar to that of the S9 Plus and the S9,” the company noted in its report.
Counterpoint research director Jeff Fieldhack reiterated that the Galaxy S10e was helping the company gain market-share in the U.S., adding that the device wasn’t cannibalizing older Samsung flagships. It makes us wonder just who exactly is buying the Galaxy S10e then — we’ve contacted Counterpoint to find out more and will update the article accordingly.
The news might put a smile on Samsung’s face after several reviewersreported issueswithGalaxy Foldreview units. At least two reviewers noted broken main screens, while a few others tried peeling off a layer that looked like a screen protector (spoiler: this kills the display).
In any event, we were rather impressed with Samsung’s top-end flagship in ourGalaxy S10 Plus review. Our own David Imel praised the versatile camera setup, great screen, and variety of features.
