According to a customer survey accessed byAndroid Central, Fitbit is asking users to consider a new service tier that costs just $2.99 per month. That’s less than half of the existing monthly subscription price of Fitbit Premium. However, unlike what you get with the costlier plans, this cheap Fitbit subscription plan may not have a lot to offer.

As per the survey, the new tier will give Fitbit users access to additional historical data. The current free Fitbit plan only allows users to see health data from the past 30 days. For some metrics, the information access is further limited to seven days. The cheaper $2.99 plan could extend these timelines. Fitbitreportedlydescribes it as follows:

As you might know, Google recentlycompletedits acquisition of Fitbit. Under the terms of the deal, the Mountain View-based tech giant cannot use user data for ad targeting. Hence the new subscription plan might be one way Google is hoping to monetize Fitbit data and boost revenue.

There’s no official word on if and when Fitbit will introduce the new plan. We’ll surely update our comprehensiveFitbit guidein case the cheaper plan goes official.
