Face Unlock added to OnePlus 3/3T in latest Open Beta updates
July 29, 2025
OnePlus is rolling out Open Beta updates for theOnePlus 3and3Twhich add Face Unlock and a handful of other features to its 2016 flagships.
OnePlus co-founder and director, Carl Pei, had previously teased a wider rollout for the security measure which launched with the OnePlus 5T. Now, after rolling the feature out toOnePlus 5 usersin a recent beta, the Chinese OEM is also letting OnePlus 3 and 3T owners join in the fun.

The feature is included in Open Beta 30 and 21 for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, respectively. As a quick refresher, Face Unlock uses the front-facing camera to identify your face and unlock your phone without a code or pattern input. Think of it as a simpler and far cheaper alternative to Apple’sFace IDthat can be enabled with additional camera software rather than requiring a brand new set of sensors.
The other headline addition is support forOnePlus Switch, a bespoke data-transfer application which the company added to the Google Play Store just over a week ago.
The OnePlus Switch app lets you copy over contacts, messages, call logs, photos, videos, audio, and application data to a newly-purchased OnePlus phone from any Android device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above. OnePlus said at the time that support for iOS devices and additional data is also in the works.
As well as the addition of support for Airtel VoLTE services in India, the two Open Beta updates also provide general bug fixes, stability improvements, and an upgrade to the OnePlus Launcher. Now boosted up to version 2.3, the OnePlus Launcher now sports a refreshed app drawer design, a dynamic clock icon, and auto-naming for folders.

As the folks over atAndroid Policenote, there’s no word on whether the updates do away with Smart Clipboard. The feature was only intended for OnePlus’ China-exclusive HydrogenOS, but it somehow slipped into the OxygenOS beta and initially appeared to be harvesting user data. OnePlus hadpromised to remove the featurein the next batch of updates.
